Contest…there was a contest?

Hi all! As you can see I pushed from 45 to 51 (!) in the course of three days. Holla! Thanks to all for word of mouth or sprinkling magic voodoo dust on my blog, ‘cause I got there!

I’m sad to say the contest I put up on Monday was a total bust, which makes me sadface. One person sent me a recipe. One. That awesome person was Odie from The Simple Life! Here is the recipe for his chili that he sent me (yum):

Odie’s Chili

1 3 lb bag of onions cut up but not too fine

1 Bell pepper cut up but not too fine

1 bunch of green onions cut up, everything but the root end

3 16oz cans of red kidney beans

1 2 ½ size can of Rotele tomatoes with green chilis

1 lb package of stew beef meat cut into bite size pieces

3 tbs Worchestershire sauce

Chili powder

Cumin

Salt/Pepper

Garlic minced

Chicken broth

Olive Oil

Cut up the entire bag of onions, whole bunch of green onion and green bell pepper. Saute in olive oil until softened. Add tomatoes, beans, salt, pepper, Worchestershire sauce, chili powder, cumin, minced garlic and chicken broth and stir well. Add the meat and cook on medium heat for 45 minutes stirring occasionally.

Serve with shredded cheese on top and corn chips go well with this.

You can vary this by using regular diced tomatoes instead of Rotel which is hot and if you can get textured vegetable protein which is in cube form and dark in color it takes on the flavors of the spices and sauces and gives the same texture as meat & is very good. If you have trouble finding it I can help there too.

Since I only got one entry from 46-51 I hereby close the contest due to lack of interest. I will have to do something cooler or more innovative for the push to 75, or 100, or whatever. Y’all missed out on some cool stuff! Since Odie was kind enough to send me this recipe, he will be getting one of the Australian knick knacks that I was offering. I’ll be e-mailing you for the info, Odie!

  2. I said I would send you a recipe but I didn't know whether to send it via the blog or your email.

My apologies for not getting back to read the comments to see if you answered. oops. I don't respond in comments so sometimes I forget that others do - and well...we all know MY memory.

I will happily send you a recipe - contest or no contest. Except this time I will check back on comments. ::wink::

    Hugs!

  3. Rox-That could be construed as nepotism! But I'll dig around and see what I can find, just because you're my aunt <3

Skippy-no problem :) I'm thinking most of us didn't think I'd make a jump to 6 in 3 days? I sure as hell didn't! (Still welcoming recipes though, anytime!)

  5. I never expected to see my chili recipe on someone esle's blog. I have cooked more pots of it than I care to count and it is always loved by all of my family. I rarely use beef and use the vegetable protein which helps us enjoy eating more healthy. Thanks for the plug my friend.

  6. Hed...I never had any doubts. Your blog is great. I didn't send you a receipt because I hate cooking! And everything I cook is fattening. Sorry ;-( That Skippy is so rude isn't she? hehehe just kidding Skippy. Love you both

  7. Thisisme-I had expected the swing from 45 to 50 would honestly take a few weeks-I was at 34 for SO LONG so I thought "meh, I'll just end it when I hit 50". Now that it's there and gone (52 now!), heck, I may just do one and have it last a solid month. I welcome the recipes still! <3

Odie-It sounds SO GOOD TOO! I e-mailed you regarding sending you a goodie, so reply back!

  8. Ah bugger! I'm too slow - I've got a couple of recipes for you bouncing around in my head that I've not gotten around to typing up as I don't cook by recipes normally, I just make it up as I go along - but I shall do so today & email them :)
